Tetsuya Nomura’s former comment is now understandable.
Previously, he said that both Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy VII Remake should be out until 2020 at the latest. Since then, we learned that the former game is going to be out in 2018. This point is where a twist comes in – Gematsu translated Nomura’s latest interview with Famitsu, which says the following: „Although there are parts [of Final Fantasy VII Remake] further along than Kingdom Hearts III, such as cutscenes, it is unlikely we’ll share information for a while as we switch from mainly external to mainly internal development.”
At this point, the game will indeed drop in 2020, even though it was confirmed to be an episodic project by Square Enix.
