TIPS – From tips and tricks for beginners in Dark Souls to advanced secrets, we cover everything in Lordran in this review and guide.
We return to Lordran! Seven years after its original premiere in seventh generation systems, Dark Souls returns in the form of Dark Souls: Remastered, a polished and revised version for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Of course, at this point, you will quickly find dozens of Dark Souls guides on the internet that will tell you to step by step all the contents of the game, although in PS4Pro.eu we have preferred to make an orientation guide with all the changes, tricks, initial tips and secrets that we consider it more useful for both novices and Dark Souls experts.
In case you are a little lost or lost, Dark Souls: Remastered includes the base game and the Artorias of the Abyss DLC in an indivisible package that improves the resolution, the rate of images per second and adjustments of balance and contents concerning the original version
Remastering a modern classic
What are the differences between the original and the new version?
When you come across a remastering, you usually expect to hear the same thing: “1080p, 60fps, all content.” The same is true in Dark Souls: Remastered , but it is not the whole truth, and that is that if we start doing accounts we fall in that the new From Software game goes a little bit further and dares to modify some aspects of the game, both graphic and mechanical. Let us tell you all.
The issue is more sharp graphics in the PC version: is it worth to check out if you have your original game with the favorite mod DSfix? You’ll have to answer that question for yourself, but you anticipate in this guide that neither the mod or remastering are perfect. We leave you with a comparison of Digital Foundry so you can see both in action and study what you are most interested in doing.

Changes in the multiplayer
- The maximum number of players in a session increases from 4 to 6, although it is necessary to use the Dry Finger to reach the new top of players.
- As in subsequent installments, a password system is integrated that allows you to share your session only with whomever you choose. If you summon someone whose character level and weapon scaling are superior to yours in these circumstances, the game will synchronize both characteristics with yours so that there is no carry.
- You can also activate or deactivate the global pairing or limit it to your same region to improve the connection.
- Out P2P connection, hello dedicated servers!
- To reduce the ‘ganked,’ the ability to summon allied specters after being invaded by a hostile player is limited.
- You are more likely to cross paths with players from your friend’s list if the right conditions are met for them to appear in the game.
- The only healing object available during the invasions is the Estus Flask, but it has half the uses in this situation to avoid unnecessarily long battles. Now, if you defeat your invader, you will recover your jars.
- In a PvP session, different players whose parameters are too far from the host will not be paired.
General changes
- The Dry Finger can now be obtained at the beginning of the game, in the inventory of the merchant of the Burgo of the Undead. In its location of the original game, in the Painted World of Ariamis, there are now twin
- Now you can select how many consumables you want to use from inventory or when you offer them to a covenant merchant, as well as later deliveries, instead of using them one at a time.
- There is a new bonfire with Vamos, the skeleton blacksmith.
- You can change the pact from any bonfire.
- The objects you pick up are no longer automatically assigned to their respective inventory box.
- Similar to later deliveries, holding down or up on the crosshead takes you directly to the first magic or object you have equipped, respectively.
- You can reassign the buttons.
Other changes and curiosities of interest
- You can play Dark Souls: Remastered in the same languages in which Dark Souls III is available.
- The development of Dark Souls Remastered runs at the hands of QLOC (PC, PS4, Xbox One) and Virtuoso (Switch). From Software supervises the development of all versions of the game.
- Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is removed from the Steam market to standardize Dark Souls: Remastered. If you had the original in your Steam library, you could get the remastering at 50% of its price. The same does not happen in the PS4 and Xbox One versions.
Novices of Dark Souls, start here
Learn the most important statistics and mechanics of the game.
It is likely that if you have just started playing Dark Souls, you feel a little intimidated or intimidated by what is said about him. Is it as hard as it looks? What things should I know before I start? Any trick or advice of Dark Souls to take into account? Do not worry: in this section, you should find an answer to your main concerns about the game. Moreover, if that is not the case, ask! For something, there is the comment box.
What is the best class to start?
It is the million dollar question. There are no tricks because there are no better or worse classes because they are not classes, but rather “initial sets“ or characters that come with different equipment and distribution of statistics. In other words, you could start as a knight, invest points in intelligence, equip him with a cane and a pair of spells and there would be no notable difference with a magician.
Now, there are small nuances that could make you want to choose more for one or the other. For example, the thief always starts with a master key – a handy object to open some essential shortcuts in the first hours – while the rest of the classes can only choose to get it from the beginning as an initial gift. You also have the pyromancer, for example, who gets a flame of pyromania and magic “fireball” in a few minutes after starting and that will come in handy to deal with certain enemies of the first hours, as the Demon of the Refuge or the boar in the armor of the Burgo of the Undead.
So, if you have an absolute mastery, there will be classes that benefit you more than others, but at the end of the day, all of them have the possibility of having the same statistics and objects. Unless you want to do a ‘speed run’ or something like that, just take the one that best fits your style of play.
How does each statistic work?
The statistics of Dark Souls (1) are the following: vitality, learning, endurance, strength, dexterity, endurance, intelligence, and faith. Instead of accumulating experience to level up, in this game you “buy” new levels resting on the bonfire of the Fire Link Sanctuary. Each point that you buy will make you go up one level until you have 99 in all the statistics. However, taking into account the metagame and the structure of the multiplayer pairing, the ideal is that you raise your ‘build’ limiting your level rise about 120. It is not mandatory, but if a tip that will probably be as more you will enjoy the game. We recommend you make plans in the Mugen Monkey character builder.
Vitality | Determine your PS (life bar). The improvement curve is very pronounced in the first 50 levels (from 572 to 1,500), from there you get less when climbing. At level 99, you would have 1,900 PS base. |
Learning | Determine your learning slots, and therefore how many magics you can equip. You get your first slot with 10 points, and to get more you must upload it up to 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 28, 34, 41 and 50 points, respectively. |
Endurance | It determines several resistance parameters and, more importantly, equipment load. The things that you have equipped increase your weight, and the heavier you are, the more it will cost you to move and roll. Total mobility is achieved by equipping less than 25% of your maximum weight capacity, but you will suffer as you reach 50% and 100%. |
Force | It serves to increase the attack power of weapons that climb with force. The better the scaling of the weapon, the more it will affect your strength. Many weapons have a minimum strength requirement (or other statistics) to be able to wield. The scaling of weapons, from best to worst, is as follows: S, A, B, C, D, E. |
Skill | It serves to increase the attack power of weapons that climb with dexterity. The better the scaling of the weapon, the more it will affect your dexterity. Many weapons have a minimum requirement of dexterity (or other statistics) to be able to wield. The scaling of firearms, from best to worst, is as follows: S, A, B, C, D, E. |
Resistance | Increase your natural defense and your resistance to poison. |
Intelligence | Increases the effectiveness of spells classified as spells. It also affects specific catalysts. Some magics have intelligence and faith requirements at the same time, just as some weapons require both strength and dexterity. |
Faith | Increases the effectiveness of magics classified as miracles. It also affects specific catalysts. Some magics have intelligence and faith requirements at the same time, just as some weapons require both strength and dexterity. |
What kinds of magic are there?
In Dark Souls there are three types of magic: spells, miracles, and pyromancers. Spells escalate in intelligence or combinations of intelligence and faith, miracles escalate in faith or combinations of intelligence and faith, and pyromancers are very affordable because they scale with the level of your flame of pyromancy.
The flame of pyromania we are talking about is a catalyst. The catalysts serve to channel (launch) the magics that you have equipped, and there are several types. The flame of pyromancy is the catalyst of pyromania, but there are also canes to cast spells and talismans to throw miracles. You must read the catalyst compatibility from your inventory.
How do I know where I need to go?
You will not find waypoints in Dark Souls. Moreover, because there is not, there is no map. You should be guided by the vague tips and clues that the characters give you and some game cinematics unless you take this guide. Later, we cover the main route indicating the main shortcuts and connections between one area and another. Of course, it contains certain spoilers that you may want to avoid.
Where is the quick trip?
There is not. At least, not from the beginning. During the first half of your adventure, you will have to move from one place to another on foot, although for your fortune most areas are interconnected through a complex and broad network of shortcuts. After completing Anor Londo, you will get a Vessel of the Lord that will allow you to travel between bonfires. We indicate in this mini guide which are the bonfires in which you can jump.
Shrine Link of Fire | Daughter of Chaos | Cave of Crystal |
Altar of Solar Light | Stone Dragon | Garden of the Sanctuary (DLC) |
Anor Londo | Parish of the Undead | Sanctuary of Oolacile (DLC) |
Tomb of the Dark Moon | Depths | The municipality of Oolacile (DLC) |
The camera of the Princess | Tomb of the Giants | Oolacile Dungeon (DLC) |
The Abyss | Painted World of Ariamis | Sima del Abismo (DLC) |
Altar of the King of the Cemetery | The Archives of the Duke | Herrero Vamos (Remastered) |
How does multiplayer work?
When you start the game, you are considered a host of your world. That is to say, that all the contents – open doors, state of the NPCs and bosses without defeating, among others – correspond directly with the progress of your game. However, that same world can be accessed by other players with good or bad intentions, and you can also access their worlds.
The idea is that in any world, the goal to move forward is always to kill the boss of the area. The host can summon allied ghosts to help him progress to the boss, but he can also be a victim of dark spectral invasions that win if they manage to kill the host before he completes the zone. Some NPCs also appear as allies or invaders if you meet certain conditions.
However, the system of pacts can also alter the mechanism of invocation and invasion. For example, a player belonging to the forest hunter pact and wearing the cat pact ring will automatically be invoked to defend the Dark Garden from other players who do not belong to that pact. We’ll talk about all of this in depth later in the Dark Souls Remastered guide.
Remember that in Dark Souls: Remastered returns the password system that was introduced in subsequent deliveries to the original. That means you can play with a friend – or with anyone else who knows the password – through the internet. Simply choose a password for your session and tell it to whomever you want. Multiplayer will only be available for all sessions that have the same password set at the same time.
