Trouble Around Lords Of The Fallen 2’s Development, Too!

Too? Too: not only 2020’s Call of Duty is said to have developmental issues (which we discussed separately), but also Lords of the Fallen‘s sequel!

So Lords of the Fallen was published nearly five years ago by CI Games, formerly known as City Interactive. It was a passable Souls-clone, which was developed by Deck13, who then moved on to work on The Surge, which came out in 2017 – it was an alright futuristic Souls-clone, published by Focus Home Interactive. (The German dev team is now working on the sequel.) So they aren’t working on Lords of the Fallen 2.

Last year, CI Games have pulled in New York-based Defiant Studios to give the game a „fresh start.” (We wrote about it back then.) The goal was to rebuild the game from scratch, but sh_t hit the fan in no time… as Defiant Studios is no longer working on the game, as CI Games say their quality of work wasn’t acceptable, which is why the Polish company is working on the game in-house. (Let’s hope that they will not go back to their budget ways and quality.)

Eurogamer translated CI Games‘ press release. The relationship between CI Games and Defiant Studios was terminated „due to inadequate execution…of a key work stage,” namely the „vertical slice,” which is the „skeleton,” the concept of the game. „The quality of the work was lower than expected by the company, as precisely described in the agreement, despite three calls to improve the quality of this stage of work,” we read on Eurogamer.

„[Lords of the Fallen 2’s developer team consists of] exceedingly talented developers whose work we fully stand behind. Our team knows how to build quality games as is evident by their key roles in Just Cause 3, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Far Cry 5, DmC: Devil May Cry, and many other top-tier projects. As we intend to abide by our contractual confidentiality obligations, at this time we cannot expand further on this matter,” David Grijn, the founder of Defiant, said.

What’s next? Cancelling Lords of the Fallen 2? It wouldn’t be surprising.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
