SEGA To See Rebirth [VIDEO]

The title sounds dumb, yes, we admit it – but the company named SEGA will form in about three months.

So Sega Sammy Holdings announced that on April 1, the first day of the next fiscal year, Sega Interactive and Sega Games will merge, forming the new company called… Sega. Toshihiro Nagoshi, who we can also call the father of the Yakuza series, is talking about this merge in the newest SegaNama stream below.

So the parent company is called Sega Sammy Holdings, which happens to own the SEGA brand. Under it, there’s Sega Holdings, which has two more companies under that, called Sega Interactive and Sega Games. The former is responsible for amusement games, such as arcade cabinets and so on. Sega Games is the one that makes PC, console, and smartphone games. (At least there’s a difference in the name – until September, THQ Nordic AB was the company that acquired the THQ remnants, and it had a publisher under it called THQ Nordic GmbH. As everyone thought it was far too confusing, the parent company renamed itself to Embracer Group AB, much to everyone’s joy…)

In the video, Nagoshi explained that the Sega brand is used for more than in video games, and as time went by, they had to split up the brand to Sega Interactive and Sega Games to have each half get its set of rules and such, but as the market changed even more since then, they no longer felt necessary to have two sub-companies, and so they will merge them back into one. Nagoshi says it is going to be a big change for the company, who might make better content, too. Sega Holdings will also be renamed on April 1 to Sega Group.

It might be some Japanese trend, as SNK Playmore recently renamed itself to SNK.
