It seems that the big N will follow Sony’s and Microsoft’s „half-gen” example, even though Nintendo doesn’t follow the schedule of the two competitors.
We already shared some of the predictions of Serkan Toto, an analyst of Katan Games about the possible pricing of the next-gen PlayStation (the PlayStation 5) and Xbox (the Xbox Series X model). However, on Gamesindustry, he also revealed his predictions about the Nintendo Switch. As he was formerly right about the Nintendo Switch Lite, let’s see what he thinks.
„There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Nintendo will launch a ‘Switch Pro‘ in 2020,” Toto said. He believes the new hybrid platform will support the 4K resolution, have bigger cartridge sizes (storage-wise), and that this model would launch after the summer holidays in the United States (July 4…), with a possible price tag of 399 dollars. Previously, there were rumours about a stronger Nintendo Switch model, but back then, it seemed that it could launch in January. In 2021, not 2020.
The issues with Toto’s prediction start with the cartridge sizes – the games made for the Pro model would not be supported by the old, or current Nintendo Switch models. Keep in mind that Nintendo has done everything to support the Nintendo Switch Lite to have the games run on that platform as on the regular Switch model. The big N will likely not change this approach (as it would be a business flop).
We’ll see if his predictions are correct or not. The lack of compatibility would be a major issue around the stronger Nintendo Switch, but we have to add that the Switch has outstanding sales now, and launching a new model just before the next-gen consoles arrive could be a big success.
