Resident Evil: Village: The Longest Game On The Engine To Date?

The new instalment of the Resident Evil series might be longer than the other games that use the same engine.

RE Engine has become something that Capcom has used a lot recently – after Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil: Resistance, and Devil May Cry 5 all used it. Resident Evil (8): Village will use it, too, and AestheticGamer wrote about it on Twitter.

He replied to someone who said sarcastically that he can’t wait to pay a lot of money for another DLC-sized game like Resident Evil 3 Remake. (In a sense, he is right, though – Resident Evil 3 Remake doesn’t get any DLC, while Resident Evil: Resistance keeps getting updated, while RE3R lacks the Mercenaries mode that made the original so playable…).

„Resident Evil 3 Remake is longer than a DLC piece, and it did include Resident Evil: Resistance, though I know many like to neglect that as they don’t care about it. However, if you’re worried about really short Resident Evil games, you don’t need to. Let’s just say I have an inkling about what Resident Evil games are in development right now; I’m only talking about Resident Evil 8, but people know Resident Evil 4 [Remake] is also coming up at this point. Resident Evil 8 will be the longest RE Engine game to date, and without saying too much, the other stuff coming up should follow a similar trend,” he wrote. He called Resident Evil: Village RE8 there.

And here’s the issue: Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 6 were both longer than Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil 2 Remake. However, sometimes less is more, and this applies to the survival horror genre – especially if there is some replayability.

Resident Evil (8): Village launches in early 2021 (maybe later…?) on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. There might be new information about the game later this month.
