Last Thursday, August 27, a new Ubisoft video game arrived on mobile devices: Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad. This RPG shooter is free to play and players lead a squad in real-time during 5v5 shootouts. The new title of the French company has had a very turbulent start, and not for anything related to its playability or performance, but for something that has annoyed many players.

The opening cinematic for Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad introduces us to the lore of the game. The story goes that a group of terrorists (really civilians tired of inequality) called Umbra is wreaking havoc in the cities, hacking the social media accounts of politicians and other different crimes.

The problem has come because the logo of this terrorist organization is similar to the raised fist of the Black Lives Matter movement, which fights against racial inequality in many parts of the world. Obviously, this has created a tremendous controversy and players have protested against Ubisoft, which has released a small statement.

The creators of Assassin’s Creed have tweeted that the images featured in the intro are “insensitive and harmful. ” Ubisoft has thanked the community for pointing out this bug and has apologized for it. The French company has confirmed that the images of the raised fist will be removed from the app on September 1 after an update that will arrive on Android. To iOS it will “as soon as possible”.
