CD Projekt’s CEO Apologises For His Crunch Comments

Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed for the third time, and the company above the dev team had their CEO say something bad.

After CD Projekt RED‘s game did not have the chance to launch in November (mainly due to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One port of Cyberpunk 2077 – which is why it’s almost a next-gen title…), the devs had a conference call, and here, Adam Kiciński, the CEO of CD Projekt, said that crunching the developers on the game is not that bad and that most of the team isn’t subject to it. However, the CEO has since apologized for this statement.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier published two images. The first one is the conference call quote, and the second one is the apology issued to the employees after it.

„I had not wanted to comment on crunch, yet I still did, and I did it in a demeaning and harmful way. Truth be told, it’s only now, when the stress connected with the delay decision and the call itself is lifting, that I’m fulling realizing the extent of my words,” he wrote. Perhaps he should have realized earlier that crunching only lines the pockets of the higher-ups, with the employees getting nothing, only going physically/mentally broke.

The three-week delay of Cyberpunk 2077 (which now launches on December 10 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series – with the next-gen patch coming next year -, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia) has affected Everspace 2, but Rockfish Games’ product fell over the doorstep to 2021. The developers wrote the following on Kickstarter: „Let’s get the cyber elephant out of the room right away: The Cyberpunk 2077 release has just been pushed back to December 10, which is a major blow to our planned Everspace 2 Early Access release in mid-December. Not only will every media outlet and content creator cover the arguably most-anticipated AAA game in history throughout the entire holiday season (and not much else), we also know that there’s quite a bit of audience overlap within our community (and our team). We are aware that Everspace 2 fans will be unhappy, but competing with the arguably most anticipated videogame in history is just not a good idea.”

But it’s not just the 3D space shooter that got delayed: Path of Exile‘s 3.13 update got also pushed to January. The Poles are now affecting others.
