Sony previously planned that God of War and Uncharted could receive a remake on PlayStation 4.

God of War got a new instalment in April 2018 (when Kratos, as well as his son, Atreus, have left the Greek mythology to participate in the Norse one instead with Sony Interactive Entertainment Santa Monica at the helm), and the first three Uncharted games got a remaster collection in October 2015 (Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection), but there were more ideas there, according to Michael Mumbauer, an ex-PlayStation employee.

Mumbauer was one of the heads of Sony Interactive Entertainment San Diego, and he was interviewed by one David Jaffe – who happens to be the original God of War’s director, as well as an essential developer behind Twisted Metal. Mumbauer talked about how at his workplace, he initially had to supervise a visual arts group, but over time, his focus has been shifted more towards remasters and remakes.

Jaffe wanted to hear more about it, and Mumbauer promptly responded: „Remakes and remasters were the things I was chasing after. So that’s why the dev team was built. What I can tell you is that’s what I was chasing because I believed that there was value in doing something like a remake of God of War at the visual fidelity of today. Or, a remake of Uncharted 1,” he said.

Despite Mumbauer having left the studio, the team in question is still there with a lot of employees (around 200), and they could be possibly working on a remake (and we see Naughty Dog employees moving over…), but a new Uncharted can’t be ruled out either (especially how ND might be focusing on The Last of Us Part III – but before that, they will likely drop The Last of Us Part II Remastered, similarly how they pulled the same with the first episode early in the PlayStation 4’s life).

An Uncharted could be a good idea, but God of War will get its sequel possibly next year (could be called God of War: Ragnarok, but we have yet to see if it’s a PlayStation 5-exclusive title or if it’s a PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 game).
