The producer of the Yakuza series is inspired by the success that Ghost of Tsushima has (the PlayStation 4-exclusive just got a cinematic adaptation announced; we wrote about it).

Daisuke Sato, the producer of Yakuza (or Ryu Ga Gotoku in Japan), has previously said that the games that never got a Western version should be brought over, and now that Ghost of Tsushima is a success (even though it’s a Japanese story altogether!), he said again that he’d gladly work on bringing the currently Japan-only Yakuza: Kenzan and Yakuza: Ishin over.

„Even long before Ghost of Tsushima, I did want to release samurai games like [Yakuza:] Kenzan and Ishin in the West. Unfortunately, after Yakuza 0, we were very busy with remastering the numbered Yakuza titles for the PlayStation 4, so we missed the opportunity to work on some of these other games. However, if anything, Ghost of Tsushima has helped Western gamers become more interested in samurai, so I should think of it as now is a more opportune time to release these titles,” Sato told Gameblog in an interview.

He added that if he had the chance to bring Binary Domain to the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series (this TPS was developed by the Yakuza team, and Sato was one of its directors; it was released in 2012 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC), he’d like to do so. „If possible, I’d like to make a few changes that I didn’t quite get to back then and maybe redo some parts, too,” he added.

If SEGA is clever, the company should listen to Sato. As Yakuza is more and more of a mainstream franchise in the West (despite Yakuza: Like a Dragon, aka Yakuza 7, changing its gameplay!), there is money to be made here.
