Sure, they also have Horizon Forbidden West under development, but the other project could be the next title from the Dutch studio.
In many cases, LinkedIn is the page where unannounced games from dev teams or publishers get revealed prematurely. It often is followed by said information getting scrubbed from profiles, which is not only unnecessary, it also confirms that something is indeed in works at said teams. Simon Larouche’s profile is something we should keep an eye on.
The veteran has been in the industry for more than two decades (Monsters Inc. – Behavior; Far Cry Instincts, the cancelled Rainbow Six: Patriots, as well as Watch_Dogs 2 and Splinter Cell: Blacklist – Ubisoft; Killzone 2 – Guerrilla Games) has returned in early 2018 to Guerrilla to work on an unannounced game as its director. It effectively confirms the rumours that the studio is utilising parallel game development.
Since this unannounced game has been in development for three years, Sony might be announcing it shortly, especially how Horizon Forbidden West is supposedly launching in late 2021 on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, we don’t know what this project could be: it could be a new IP, and we have our doubts if it is a return to Killzone.
There’s another interesting thing on Larouche’s profile. Before his return to Guerrilla, he worked at Eidos Montreal on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy… as its online gameplay director. But the game (which we discussed when it got announced) was revealed as a single-player title with no DLC and microtransactions! Marvel’s Avengers’ lack of success might have made Square Enix retool the game…
But we have to ask: if Guerrilla Games has had this game in the oven since 2018, it might be getting close to its completion. It might launch in 2022, but Sony has yet to reveal it.
