Electronic Arts and DICE are very serious about kicking the metaphorical butt of anyone who leaks from the Battlefield 2042 beta.
Battlefield 2042 is currently running a heavily limited, closed technical beta test. Those who get invited start by signing an NDA, which blocks them from posting any audiovisual material, and they can’t talk about the details of the game, as the publisher will find those who end up breaking the agreement.
Adam Freeman, the European community manager of Electronic Arts, wrote a Twitter thread, revealing just how serious the publisher is about the leaks: “An update on how things are going with the closed tech test ahead of the weekend. Details on the thread below, so check it out and feel free to ask questions. I’ll answer what I can. Reminder: our technical playtest is under NDA and via invitation only.
Thanks to folks on PlayStation who initially signed up; keep an eye on the EA Playtesting website for any future playtests we might do. We recruit all of our testers from here for all games across EA. So sign up! Xbox players will be joining PC this weekend for our first cross-play testing. Our teams are working through the weekend, so people who are fortunate to be in the technical playtest can sign in to the private AnswersHQ forums to share their feedback and issues with us. Check your invitation email for the link, and make sure you’re signed in on the same account from which you’ll be playtesting. If you don’t, the forums won’t appear for you. Big thanks to everyone who has helped to share their experience and troubleshoot issues with us.
Codes for Xbox have started to roll out, and if you’re thinking about sharing them with a friend, don’t – they won’t work. You also don’t want to share your account information with folks either. That’s going to end badly for you. Super badly. If you have access this weekend, make sure to read through your invitation email and follow the information provided. You’re under NDA for this playtest, so videos, screenshots and Streaming from this playtest result in strikes on your channels. Be a good egg. Break the rules, expect to lose access to both the technical playtest, future EA tests, and potentially access to 2042 itself when it releases. We’ve already removed plenty of people from the playtest in these past 48 hours, and they won’t be able to play this weekend.
A reminder that we’re using this opportunity to test as much of our technical systems as possible, and so if you’re looking to experience [the] gameplay at its fullest, look forward to the open beta in September. Technical playtests aren’t exclusively focused on bugs or gameplay. It’s about the tech we use that powers the experience. We’ve learned a huge deal, on top of what we already get from daily internal tests – so our thanks again!” Freeman wrote.
An NDA is an NDA, and more prominent publishers like Electronic Arts, Microsoft/Xbox Game Studios, and Sony Interactive Entertainment, tend to keep to them. Battlefield 2042 will launch on October 22 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
