Four Exciting Horror Games Incoming [VIDEO]

In terms of genre, one game stands out from the horror FPS foursome, and in terms of story, another does the same, but the four products can be put into the same paddock with little exaggeration.

Let’s start with the latter example: Nightdive Studios announced that it’s going to combine the PlayStation and SEGA Saturn version of Powerslave: Exhumed (where you get to kill aliens aplenty) into a new PC release, which will launch this year on Steam and GOG.

Here are the features the studio is promising: “Widescreen / HD display; modern gamepad support; SMAA antialiasing; anisotropic texture filtering; achievements; Vulkan / DirectX 11 graphics API; smooth object interpolation for high refresh rate monitors.”

Blini Games is developing Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2. 1C Entertainment will publish it later on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. However, it will begin its life as an Early Access title on PC on October 28. It’s going to be an action RPG with rogue-like elements. The story is based around a particular painting, though.

“The Surrealist Artist Artois-Bonnot presented his painting called Dream Landscape in the Paris Spring Salon of 1926. The moment the painting was uncovered, it caused a sudden riot among the public, and people screamed and ran all over the place. Soon after the exhibition, Artois-Bonnot fell into a strange deep sleep from which no one could wake him up. Rumours abound that shortly before this attack of ‘sleeping sickness, he was on the verge of completion of his greatest masterpiece which would change the world,” the game’s Steam page reads.

The three characters from the first game (The Detective, the Witch, and the Professor) are all returning, but they are joined by the Medium, the Veteran, and The Alienist. They all have a unique playstyle. By finding blueprints and resources, you can craft your equipment (clothes that will change your looks; weapons and consumables). Multiplayer will be possible with co-op, allowing up to four players to team up. If you know your Cthulhu role, you might find yourself familiar with this world.

1C Entertainment will also publish a comic book-style dark retro horror FPS called Forgive Me Father. This game is developed by Byte Barrel, but it’s only planned for PC at the moment. However, it will also be available in Early Access from October 28. It’s also heavily inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s books. “Be aware of your madness level, which dynamically changes during the gameplay and gives you additional power. Use your active skills, which you choose depending on your play style, to fight against internal evil. Explore this Lovecraft-inspired world that is full of side areas and secret places, and uncover the entire story to solve the mystery of this crazy place,” the Steam page says.

It will feel like a classic FPS from the 90s, and not just because of having 2D elements in a 3D environment: first aid kits and life points, non-reloading weapons, powerups during dynamic combat with numerous opponents will also bring back that old-school feeling. The combat experience will also be unique: you can have scripture in one hand and a gun in the other. However, the two different heroes will provide different playing styles. The journalist and the priest will have access to a different development tree.

And finally, CULTIC by Jasozz Games will be published by 3D Realms on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch next year. However, you can pick up a demo from Steam. “I am beyond excited for everyone to play CULTIC finally. This has been a dream project of mine since I first started tinkering with game development, and having it go from experimenting with an art style to a 3D Realms game has been incredible,” said Jazz Games sole developer Jason Smith in a press release.

A single person makes the game because Smith handles Jasozz Games. The Steam page says, “CULTIC gives you the freedom to approach combat your way. You can run in guns blazing, running, jumping, sliding, and dodging to keep out of harm’s way. If you prefer a slower approach, you can lay traps, let your enemies come to you, and pick them off from the safety of cover. Maybe you prefer to weave in between your foes, leading their attacks towards each other and turning them against one another. With a full arsenal of mid-century firearms and explosives, you’ll be well equipped to slaughter everything in your path—provided you don’t get slaughtered first.”

CULTIC will look and feel like a game from the 90s, but it will have a modern engine, bringing newer physics and lighting… but the colour filtering looks awful at the moment.
