Nintendo lawsuit: RomUniverse must destroy all Nintendo material.

Nintendo has warned the court that the RomUniversiverse website could return if the ROMs are not permanently destroyed, and the court has ordered the defendant to do so.

In its lawsuit against Nintendo RomUniverse, the company has made new claims. A little over a month ago, we learned of the dismissal of a case against RomUniverse, a notorious piracy portal that distributed copies of Nintendo games, among other things. Nintendo had sued the site for $15 million in 2019, but the final amount was set at $2.1 million to compensate the company for damages.

The case was perfectly clear to the courts, as RomUniverse illegally distributed Nintendo titles and profited from it through a premium account program it offered users to download more games. The website’s manager, Matthew Storman, has denied the allegations, claiming that he was unaware of the content of the ROMs he distributed.

Nintendo has warned the court that the RomUniversiverse website could return if the ROMs are not permanently destroyed, and the court has ordered the defendant to do so.

As reported by TorrentFreak, with the closure of RomUniverse and the $2.1 million judgment, Nintendo demanded that all licensed material held by Storman be destroyed. The order came from a federal court in California, and the website’s former owner has two weeks to comply with the injunction. In addition, the owner must also certify to the court that everything has been destroyed.

The court initially rejected this proposal, but Nintendo warned that without the destruction of the material, there is a risk that the website will return. The deadline for destroying Nintendo material is 17 August, and this material includes all products that are Nintendo’s intellectual property: video games, films, books and music. Nintendo’s determination to fight piracy is well known, and it has won numerous lawsuits against websites with infringing content. This year, it won two court cases in Spain that blocked five downloading websites.
