Epic Games Store Gets A Retro Twist

Antstream is also a cloud service, the first to appear in Tim Sweeney’s Epic Games Store.

The Epic Games Store is starting to get into the cloud, courtesy of Antstream Arcade. The word Arcade in the name is no coincidence, as it’s a service specialising in old, retro games. You can stream a lot of old games for free. Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Earthworm Jim, Mortal Kombat, to name a few examples…

The news followed just two days after Atari invested half a million dollars in Anstream Arcade, a sum that could rise to three and a half million dollars over time. And this is not the first time Epic Games Store has opened its doors to other services, as in April, for example, Itch.io, a digital store dedicated to indie games, was added to the Sweeneys’ Steam rival platform. Alongside Itch.io, some adult content has also emerged in the Epic Games/Apple lawsuit, which is set for a second round as both parties have appealed the decision (although Epic only won on one point against ‘the apples’, although it might financially hit Apple significantly in the long term).

And while we’re on the subject of the Epic Games Store, we should mention the free games. From Antstream Arcade, the Epic Welcome Pack is one of the free titles for the week (Thursday through Thursday), and the other is theHunter: Call of the Wild. These will be followed next week by Dead By Daylight and while True: learn(). Then, we can get ready for a good chance of a free game a day at the end of the year, as usual at the end of each year. Of course, these will require an Epic Games account, as well as the Epic Games Launcher, installed on your PC.
