Spider-Man: No Way Home star J.K. Simmons reveals he had to fight to keep J. Jonah Jameson’s iconic moustache when he returned to the role in the MCU

The actor returned in the post-credits scene of the latest Spider-Man movie and will return in the upcoming third film in the MCU trilogy. Simmon originally played the editor of The Daily Bugle in Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire. Spider-Man trilogy.

Simmons returned to the role in Spider-Man: Far From Home, where he received edited footage framing Spider-Man (Tom Holland) for the death of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) and the Stark Industries drone attack in London while revealing the hero’s identity. Posting the footage online via TheDailyBugle.Net, the video was picked up by other major news networks, broadcast worldwide to the horror of Peter Parker and MJ (Zendaya). Although very different from the Jameson seen in Raimi’s trilogy, Simmons has revealed that he struggled to maintain a piece of Jameson’s iconic look.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about his return to his iconic role in Marvel comics, Simmons revealed that Marvel had a very different look for Jameson. Simmons was surprised when Marvel told him that Jameson would not have his flat hairstyle. After discovering this, Simmons negotiated with the studio to make sure Jameson kept his moustache, cigar and attitude. While this is a new take on the iconic Spider-Man character on the big screen, Simmons stated that he’s just a little different from Raimi’s hairless incarnation.

“[They said] ‘No, we don’t want you to have the flat-top haircut,’ and I was like, ‘Wait, wait, wait. What?’ It was a negotiation then at that point. Obviously, the most important thing is that he’s still the same blowhard, and he does have the same damn moustache, close to it, and cigar at least.”

Simmons’ return in the MCU is a delight for many fans, with the actor not only playing the character in Raimi’s trilogy of films but reprising his role many times on Marvel TV’s animated shows, as well as in parodies of the character on The Simpsons and memes in the fandom. While his return is welcome, it’s a surprise to hear that Marvel expected to go with a different look when the character has become so recognisable. However, thanks to Simmons’ dedication to the character, fans can expect a recognisable yet contemporary update of Spider-Man’s most vocal opponent in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
