A spectacular cinematic trailer gives us a glimpse of what’s next for the Star Wars games
A spectacular cinematic trailer has served to present Star Wars Eclipse, a new Star Wars videogame being developed by Quantic Dream, the creators of Heavy Rain and the most recent Detroit: Become Human, but of which few details are known at the this time.
What will undoubtedly be one of the star announcements at The Game Awards 2021, has been presented as a decision-based action and narrative video game, as you’d expect from a team that in recent years has been known for creating interactive adventures of this style. The story? The setting? “Star Wars Eclipse is the first game set in an uncharted region of the Outer Rim during the High Republic era,” which is the historical context that the Star Wars novels and comics are currently delving into.
This period, known as the Golden Age of the Jedi, will allow us to enjoy a grand space adventure in which decisions are at the heart of the experience, as every decision can have a dramatic impact on the course of the story. With no in-game cutscenes, the trailer has shown a huge variety of beautifully rendered environments, as well as breathtaking space battles with iconic ships such as the giant Trade Federation cruisers.
Of course, there’s no shortage of lightsaber duels, as well as other action scenes that have us expecting big things from this – for now – mysterious Star Wars Eclipse. Quantic Dream has noted that the game is being designed with a diverse team of writers and designers who are experts in interactive stories starring unique characters, each with their own path, abilities and roles to play.
We hope to be able to expand on the details of this game as soon as possible. The announcement also coincides with other Star Wars projects such as Ubisoft’s Star Wars game, or the long-awaited remake of KOTOR.
