MOVIE NEWS – Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness is shaping up to be the most important film in the history of the MCU

After seeing the full-length of  Spider-Man: No Way Home, everyone was surprised by the trailer for Benedict Cumberbatch’s upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The glimpse showed that the wizard’s troubles are far from over and that he is connected to the multiverse. As we saw in the trailer, Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Wong return as the Scarlet Witch and Chief Wizzard Wong.

The new cast member is America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez, who will play the protagonist of this story. His ability to travel through the multiverse will no doubt reassure all those on his side. But what is the central conflict in the film? After seeing the first teaser, it’s still unclear. Marvel Studios certainly wants people to believe that the darker version of Strange is the main antagonist of the piece, but that seems too easy, as does Gargantua.

A lucky few have now seen the film version, and thanks to this information, we have a better idea of what fans can expect from the movie, which hits cinemas in May. While they didn’t talk about any specific spoilerific details, as one might expect from someone who doesn’t want to incur the wrath of Kevin Feige, the hint of chaos and dark times for the MCU seems in line with how the MCU story will unfold in Phase 4.

Many fans are likely to be pleased that the horror elements have been preserved in the film. Many believed that Scott Derrickson’s departure was a sign that Marvel Studios was going to tone down these aspects in the movie.

New director Sam Raimi is a veteran of horror films, so it’s no surprise that these aspects were retained. One of his most famous works outside of Spider-Man was the Evil Dead series. The trailer for the film certainly gave a hint that terrible things were about to happen. If the ‘impressive body count’ is one of the major clues Walsh was supposed to give, then it’s clear that ‘things are going to get out of hand’, as Doctor Strange’s alter ego says in the trailer.

But who dies? Can Marvel let all those already-heard episodes out of the bag to kill them off? And who has done it? It could, of course, be Dark Strange or Gargantua. But another possibility could be former Avenger Wanda Maximoff herself. After all, the Dark Realms aren’t known for good effects. Fans will have to wait until 6 May, when Doctor Strange in the Madness Multiverse is released, to find out all the answers.
