Tango Gameworks has come up with a clever way to draw attention to its last timed PlayStation 5-exclusive: a visual novel introducing the events before Ghostwire: Tokyo.

Interestingly, Ghostwire: Tokyo is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC, but the prequel, Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude is also available for PlayStation 4 (!!!) on the PlayStation Store, so those with a 2013 console or an upgraded/upgraded version of the PS4 can get a taste of the game for free, and get a head start on PC users, too. A strange marketing ploy, but maybe it will work.

“Dive deeper into the world of Ghostwire with the Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude. In this exciting visual novel adventure, players will join the mysterious KK and his team of supernatural detectives to investigate an unusual disappearance. However, along their journey, they’ll stumble upon something even more sinister. Players can choose different interactions with KK’s associates to piece together their stories in Ghostwire’s unique prequel.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an action adventure game that challenges players to master the powerful arts of Ethereal Weaving while working to defeat the menacing Hannya and his followers, the Visitors, who have invaded Tokyo. These supernatural entities roam the stunning world of Ghostwire, creating a stunning atmosphere that is a love letter to Tokyo, its curiosities, and secrets,” Bethesda wrote.

So Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude is free and available now for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 via PlayStation Store. PC users are a bit out of luck, as they’ll have to wait a week for the prequel to hit Steam and the Epic Games Store, as Valve and Epic Games will be making the Japanese studio’s prequel available on their digital platforms from March 8. The full game launches on March 25 on PlayStation 5 and PC.
