Geralt of Rivia was due to arrive in Q2 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series, but we’ll have to wait a little longer for The Witcher 3.
Bad news for those who were hoping for a new generation of The Witcher 3 to arrive soon. Following the release of Cyberpunk 2077 for PS5 and Xbox Series, along with a huge update, CD Projekt RED has planned to do the same for the award-winning The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer for that.
The developer explained the reason for the delay in a message posted on Twitter: “We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice.”
“We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done” – CD Projekt RED
“We’ll update you as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding,” concludes the message from CD Projekt RED. The community was quick to react to this news, of course with a duly negative reaction, as some feel that this version was long overdue. So we have no choice but to wait for further news from the Polish team.
This work is taking place alongside the new The Witcher game announced a few weeks ago. CD Projekt RED has not yet revealed any major details about the work, but we do know why the studio is changing the graphics engine, and in terms of the story, the promotional image suggests that it will showcase events never seen before in the franchise.
