What’s Missing from The Duskbloods’ Network Test? FromSoftware’s Head Answers!

The network test has begun, albeit with some hiccups and not quite as the Japanese studio had originally envisioned.

Despite these initial difficulties, FromSoftware successfully launched the second Nintendo Switch network test for The Duskbloods on Friday. The test includes content that will be featured in the final game, which may be released later this year. According to FromSoftware, the test includes only one of the three planned stages, as well as six of the ten planned characters. The final version of the game may differ in terms of balance and other aspects, including the amount of Virtue awarded for certain actions, as well as adjustments to weapons and abilities. In the final game, the final stage of matches may take the form of a boss battle different from the existing game world bosses. In this battle, three players form a team instead of fighting each other.

Based on the network test, the most significant content may be missing in the areas of customization and story. In the final game, players will receive rewards for participating in Dusk Battles, unlock character customization options, and advance the game’s story in the central hub, the House of Night. In a recent interview with VGC, director Hidetaka Miyazaki said that while players’ equipment is predetermined in the Duskbloods network test version, player customization will play a significant role in the final game. Despite being a multiplayer game, Miyazaki states that The Duskbloods will have a similar amount of text and backstory as FromSoftware’s other games, such as Elden Ring and Bloodborne.

“You have to customize your Bloodsworn by choosing the weapons and skills they will take into each match. One of these customization elements is which event you prefer. Which event do you want to see more often? One of these events could be the final phase being a boss battle rather than a three-way match. These are player tendencies. Matchmaking will consider this and try to group players with similar tendencies together. In the network test, there aren’t many of these lore elements. However, it’s something we’re focusing on for the full release, and we look forward to players discovering more about these characters.

Each character has been developed with their own background, personality, and setting. There are also many relationships between the Bloodsworn and their blood families and blood ties. We hope players will learn more about the characters’ histories and backgrounds as they play. In terms of the sheer volume of text and lore, I feel it compares to our previous titles. As you unlock more about these characters and uncover more of their narratives, I think you’ll find there’s a lot to enjoy and discover about the connections between the Bloodsworn and their histories,” Miyazaki said.

This comment is encouraging, and the developers know they have work to do.
