MOVIE NEWS – Doctor Strange 2 has once again proven to be a massive success for Marvel, earning the fourth biggest MCU opening – at least in our dimension.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may have received mixed reviews, but that didn’t make the slightest difference to the film’s box office performance in its first weekend. As expected, the first Marvel movie of 2022 has beaten all competition at the global box office and has the biggest opening weekend of the year so far, already the third highest-grossing film of the year with $450 million, according to Box Office Mojo. This is also the fourth-highest opening ever for an MCU film.

In fact, it will probably exceed that film’s total box office for the next week, proving that Marvel films, for all their justified or exaggerated complaints, are still hugely popular. Moreover, Thor: Love and Thunder is just two months away, promising equally encouraging results for the Marvel studio.

Although it’s unlikely that the film will reach the level of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s almost sure to be the first $1 billion film of the year, and it could do it all without being released in Russia or some of the countries where it’s been banned for LGBTQ+ content. With so much interest in where the Marvel multiverse is headed, and Doctor Strange promising several cameo roles, including the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, it seems that fans of the MCU are more than ready to dive deeper into the unknown, which is fine, as Marvel Studios has no plans to stop anytime soon.
