The Resident Evil 4 remake will bring back Ashley Graham – it has been revealed who the new character model is based on – but we have to say goodbye to Leon’s voice actor.
The first thing announced at the recent PlayStation State of Play event was Resident Evil 4 Remake, which was unveiled with a creepy, atmospheric trailer.
However, it was recently confirmed that actor Matthew Mercer, who plays Leon, will not be playing a role in the new game.
In response to the unveiling trailer for Resident Evil 4 Remake, many fans took to Twitter to call for Matthew Mercer to reprise his role as Leon Kennedy. Mercer was the voice of Leon from 2011 to 2016, lending his sarcastic style to Resident Evil 6 and Revelations 2, as well as the movie spin-offs including Damnation and Vendetta.
Many fans still consider Mercer the best portrayal of the character, even though he was not Leon’s original voice actor in RE4. Mercer responded to an enthusiastic Twitter post asking him to star in the game with an official confirmation that he had no involvement in the project, saying:
“Sadly not I [am Leon’s voice], but whomever is carrying the torch, make us all proud.“
Nick Apostolides played Leon in the Resident Evil 2 Remake, although it’s unclear whether or not he’ll be playing the character in the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
The Kidnapped Daughter
In the meantime, some information has come to light about Ashley Graham in the Resident Evil 4 remake. It has been confirmed that Dutch model Ella Freya will be Ashley’s model in the Resident Evil 4 Remake. It has not been confirmed whether Freya’s involvement will extend to her actually providing the voice of Ashley in the game or not, as Capcom has not revealed all the casting details for the new game. It’s not uncommon for games to use models to design characters and then have someone else do the voice acting and motion capture work, so Resident Evil fans should keep this in mind.
As for Ashley’s role in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, it looks like it will be very similar to what she was in the original release.
For the uninitiated, Ashley is the President’s daughter who has been kidnapped by cultists. Leon S. Kennedy is sent to rescue Ashley from her kidnappers, and once he finds her, he must escort her to safety.
Ashley can be seen briefly in the Resident Evil 4 Remake trailer, running through the woods and looking terrified. Her clothing is somewhat similar to what she wore in the original game, but she looks more modern and is wearing a jacket. Leon also has a photo of Ashley looking at him while he is being transported to the place where he disappeared, so fans can get a closer look at how Ashley will appear in the new game.
With the release date for Resident Evil 4 Remake already announced, fans should expect to see more information about the game coming in at a regular pace from now until next March 24.
Sadly not I, but whomever is carrying the torch, make us all proud. 🙂 https://t.co/bbuZDfo5GX
