MOVIE NEWS – The Duke Nukem movie is back on track, and many fans seem to be unwilling to accept anyone but John Cena in the role.
If the Duke Nukem movie gets made this time, fans demand that someone call John Cena. Now that Legendary Entertainment has acquired the rights to the planned adaptation from Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwi and Hayden Schlossberg, many of the hurdles to a possible adaptation have been removed. So far, the film appears to be on track, although no casting details have been announced.
A quick look at social media: in reaction to the news of the Duke Nukem movie, we see a plethora of comments from fans calling for John Cena to be cast.
This is nothing new, of course, as the idea of an adaptation has been floated several times in the past, and Cena has long been a fan-favourite candidate for the role. In fact, back in 2018, it was even reported that Cena would play the video game character in a Paramount movie, but that version of the project never made it out of development hell. However, that obviously hasn’t stopped Cena’s fans from arguing for him to get the role once again now that it looks like the highly anticipated movie might actually be made.
“Duke Nukem Movie in the Works from Cobra Kai Creators. Now just cast John Cena and give it to me now!” one fan tweeted.
“Honestly with how good he was in Suicide Squad and Peacemaker I would really enjoy a decent John Cena Duke Nukem movie,” writes someone else.
Even those who admittedly aren’t fans of Cena seem to agree that he’d be great for the role, as another tweet says: “As much as I do not like John Cena as a person, I would really like to see him as Duke Nukem. I’m struggling really hard to think of anyone else I’d see in that role.”
We’ll have to wait and see if a new iteration of Duke Nukem gets made, but it’s safe to say that if it does happen, John Cena will be in the spotlight.
