MOVIE NEWS – If the film Heat is ever remade, Al Pacino has cast Timothée Chalamet as his successor as Lieutenant Vincent Hanna.

In the case of a Heat remake, Al Pacino knows exactly who he wants to play his character in the new version. Pacino starred as Lieutenant Vincent Hanna in the 1995 cult film, alongside Robert De Niro, Tom Sizemore, Val Kilmer and Ashley Judd. The film, written and directed by Michael Mann, was highly acclaimed and is considered one of the most popular and influential films of its time.

There are rumours of a possible remake of Heat, but nothing is set in stone yet.

If a new film does come to fruition, Al Pacino is hoping that a particular star of the tiny alternative movie titled Dune will be cast in the role he played in the original. According to Liz Arcury’s Twitter page, Al Pacino took part in an audience Q&A after a recent Heat screening and was asked who he would cast in the role if it were his choice. Pacino was quick to respond:

“Timothée Chalamet. Great actor, good looks.”

Chalamet is someone who has already proven himself on the big screen: he received an Oscar nomination for Call Me by Your Name and has starred in films such as Lady Bird, Little Women, Beautiful Boy and Dune. He will return in the upcoming sequel to Dune and in the prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka, as the young Willy Wonka. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration if the actor were really interested – if they ever worked out a Heat reboot. In any case, Al Pacino is optimistic.

Shall we continue on paper?!

While there’s no movie sequel to Heat, it is reportedly being worked on in print. Director Michael Mann has co-written a novel with Edgar Award-winner Meg Gardiner called Heat, which will serve as both a prequel and a sequel to the feature film. Mann also shared some details about what fans can expect. These include revealing the backstory of the main characters played by Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in the film.

“It’s been my intention for a long time to do the further stories of Heat,” he said, according to Deadline.

“There was always a rich history or back-story about the events in these people’s lives before 1995 in Heat and projection of where their lives would take them after.”

“When I was writing the film, it was imperative for me to create complete life stories about all the characters and to know everything about them, including Neil McCauley’s early institutionalized years when he lost track of his brother, before he parachuted into the streets, young, angry and dangerous,” Mann added. “And, the novel shows a McCauley very much attached and the dramatic events that resulted in his dictum that ‘if you’re making moves on the street, have no attachments, allow nothing to be in your life that you cannot walk out on in thirty seconds flat if you spot the heat around the corner.'”

The publication of the novel, Heat is scheduled for 9 August 2022.
