First Nintendo Switch OLED Special Edition Arrives With Long-Awaited Game! [VIDEO]

Nintendo has unveiled its first limited-edition crossover Nintendo Switch OLED, themed around an upcoming big Switch-exclusive launch.

The Nintendo Switch is still incredibly popular over five years after its launch. Despite long-rumoured rumours that Nintendo is working on a Switch successor, the Switch Pro, the only update delivered so far is the Nintendo Switch OLED. That doesn’t look like it will change anytime soon, as Nintendo has just unveiled the first special edition Switch OLED, themed around one of the most anticipated exclusives of 2022, Splatoon 3.

As Nintendo Switch fans probably already know, Splatoon 3 is in development and will be released on 9 September.

It’s one of the biggest Switch-exclusive game launches of the year, and Nintendo is celebrating the occasion with a special edition Switch OLED model. The front and back of the unique console will feature grey Splatoon 3 graphics and neon green ink splashes. The Switch itself will feature a pair of Splatoon 3 Joy-Cons, one green and one purple, and then more Splatoon 3 graphics on the back of the console.

Pricing for the new Nintendo Switch model is not yet known, but a 26 August release date has been confirmed. This will obviously fall two weeks before the release of Splatoon 3, so the game will – quite reprehensibly – not be available for the console. So fans will have to get the special edition Splatoon 3 Nintendo Switch first and the game later.

The standard Nintendo Switch OLED model is currently available in two colours, white and black. The white model comes with a pair of white Joy-Cons, while the black model comes with a couple of neon red and blue Joy-Cons. These OLED consoles can be purchased for $350, which is $50 more than the $300 standard Switch console and $150 more than the $200 Switch Lite.

The Nintendo Switch OLED console is not a more powerful version of the original Nintendo Switch.

Both run the exact same games. The difference is that the Switch OLED has a 7-inch OLED screen, which has better visual quality than the standard Switch’s 6.2-inch screen. The OLED Switch also has 64GB of internal memory, compared to 32GB on the standard Switch.

Nintendo’s special edition consoles are becoming a rarity, but this unique Splatoon 3 Switch OLED will prove to be the perfect upgrade for Splatoon lovers. Of course, expect it to be available in limited quantities, as these special edition consoles are usually made in limited quantities and sell out quickly.
