MOVIE NEWS – The Continent is in peril again, although Henry Cavill will hopefully resume work on season 3 of The Witcher soon.

Filming on Season 3 of Netflix’s fantasy series The Witcher was reportedly halted after star Henry Cavill tested positive for COVID. According to a site called Redanian Intelligence, filming for season 3 was suspended on 25 July without warning, just as the series was preparing to film a major battle scene straight out of the books.

This is not the first time that the outbreak has prevented fans from returning to the continent as soon as possible.

Filming for season 2 was also halted by the outbreak back in 2020, pushing the season’s release back to December 2021. Season 3 has no release date yet. However, as the series is in the middle of filming, fans were hoping to find out the fate of Rivia’s Geralt (Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) by early 2023 at the latest. However, if the reports about Cavill’s health are accurate, we should expect another significant hiatus before the release of season 3.

Netflix has not yet commented on the matter, but if Cavill is indeed ill, let’s hope he recovers quickly and can return to filming as soon as possible.

Even though the pandemic has gotten in the way of new seasons being released each year, the franchise has continued to add spinoffs. In August last year, Netflix released The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an animated film that focused on Geralt’s mentor Vesemir (Kim Bodnia). There is also a limited series in the works, The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel series set 1200 years before the events of the main series, which will explore the state of the world at the time of the event known as the “Gathering of the Spheres”. In the mythology of The Witcher, this historical event marks the merging of different dimensions: humans, dwarves and monsters arrive on lands previously ruled by elves.

The Witcher quickly became one of Netflix’s most successful original productions upon its release in 2019.

Season 3 of The Witcher is based on Czas pogardy (The Time of Contempt), the second in Andrzej Sapkowski’s five-volume The Witcher Saga series. The book explores the relationship between Geralt and Ciri as they learn more and more about her powers. In the book, Geralt must also let go of his neutral stance on the continent’s politics as various forces begin to hunt Ciri.
