Is A More Experienced Lara Croft Coming In The Next Tomb Raider?

Although the game from Crystal Dynamics, which has moved from Square Enix to Embracer Group, has been announced, we don’t have many details yet…

On the latest episode of the Sacred Symbols podcast behind a Patreon paywall, Colin Moriarty talked about how he’s supposedly got a snippet of the script for the new Tomb Raider. It is being used to select suitable voice actors. The game is codenamed Jawbreaker, according to Moriarty. It will feature a slightly older, more experienced Lara Croft (and so they’re looking for an athletic, thirty-something, 5’6″ British woman to do the voice-over and mocap work).

The game has a more grounded tone, some fantasy elements and, in the case of Lara, a modified job, as Croft will not be raiding tombs but will instead be involved in protecting them. She could put the problems with her father behind her, but Lara’s life is still somewhat isolated and lonely, as she has become somewhat of a celebrity. However, she cares about a new generation of tomb raiders, and the team will be needed when another cataclysm that will fundamentally change the world emerges.

Moriarty’s credibility is questionable, but on the ResetEra forum, the partially retired Dusk Golem/AestheticGamer posted a comment, “I can’t wait until people learn about the bisexual dating and gruesome horror elements.” Therefore, prepare for a significant departure when comparing the tone and style of the Tomb Raider prequel trilogy released under Square Enix to Crystal Dynamics’ new incarnation using Unreal Engine 5.

The studio has officially said: “Crystal Dynamics is proud to be a part of the launch of Unreal Engine 5. This new engine translates into next-level storytelling and gameplay experiences. And that’s why we are thrilled to announce that we have just started developing our next Tomb Raider game, powered by Unreal Engine 5. Our goal is to push the envelope of fidelity and to deliver the high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience that fans deserve from both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise. We can’t wait to take this journey together. Thank you, and congratulations again to the Epic Games team.”

Of course, the rumours are unofficial.
