8 Remasters, Remakes Or Ports By The Grand Theft Auto VI-Hyping Take-Two

While Grand Theft Auto VI will raise the creative bar in all forms of entertainment, according to the publisher, Take-Two’s older games are also getting some form of treatment…

Take-Two Interactive, which we’ll call Take-Two from now on, confirmed in its quarterly financial report that it is working on “new iterations” of eight “previously released titles”. That is, they may be remakes, remasters or ports, and they are all set to launch by 2025. One of them is undoubtedly the mobile Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition, which will be released by the end of March at the latest. A remake of the first two episodes of Max Payne is being made for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC, but it is unknown whether it counts as one or two iterations. The sequels are not included in the eight.

So there are at least five and at most six unannounced remakes. These could include Grand Theft Auto IV and the allegedly cancelled Red Dead Redemption remaster. However, the poor console/PC performance of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition may have been the reason for the cancellation, and if any of these are back on the development schedule, they will certainly not be due for release anytime soon due to Grand Theft Auto VI, as Rockstar has now put all their eggs in this basket. (We wonder if Bully will be on the cards…?)

Speaking of Grand Theft Auto VI, Take-Two has also said: “Sales of Grand Theft Auto V also remained strong, and to date, the title has sold-in nearly 170 million units. With the development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases.” So they’re confident of success, and indeed, the Grand Theft Auto name sells itself…

Of course, it’s still a huge question as to when we can expect Grand Theft Auto VI to be released and whether it will be able to set a new standard…
