MOVIE NEWS – Season 2 of House of the Dragon is still a long way off, but some new details suggest that an important book character will join the series (WARNING, this article contains minor spoilers!)
2022 was an excellent year for Game of Thrones. Despite tragic critics after the series ended, the arrival of the first spin-off, House of the Dragon, rekindled fans’ love for George R.R. Martin’s universe. The series broke rating records on both HBO and its streaming platform.
As expected after a strong run, the network quickly renewed the series with a second season that continues to delve into the history of House Targaryen, its rise to power in Westeros and subsequent near-fall to its end, until the arrival of Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke.
Although filming for the second season has not yet begun, some details have already emerged. Earlier, a producer confirmed that the “Blood and Cheese” arc will be part of the new episodes. It seems that casting has already begun for a central character in this storyline, as a character who may be a reference to Cheese has been spotted in a recent video. Check it out at Redanian Intelligence.
In the books, Daemon also employs assassins, a former City Watch sergeant and a rat catcher who knows all the hidden passageways of Red Castle to avenge Luke’s death. Their mission will be to sneak into the castle and advance the war pitting the two factions of the Targaryens against each other.
The Game of Thrones universe beyond the House of the Dragon
It is understood that House of the Dragon will not be the last story within the Game of Thrones universe to hit the screen. Warner Discovery is trying to make the most of the successful franchise. The world of Westeros is clearly one of them. So the series based around the characters created by Martin will be continued over time.
One of those returning to continue his story will be Jon Snow, who will get his own series, and Kit Harington will not only be involved as the main character but will also be working behind the scenes to bring the project to life.
The other one who will get his own series is Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), who we met in House of the Dragon and will focus on his adventures at sea. In addition, another upcoming prequel series will focus on adventures in the waters of Westeros and will be called 10,000 Ships. Last but not least, Tales of Dunk and Egg is rumoured to be getting its own spin-off, which could be a limited series.
There are also two animated series in development. The Golden Empire and another as yet untitled project. The latter would focus on unexplored areas of Martin’s universe.
