Nintendo Switch-exclusive game Pikmin 4 has some new features, including a puppy you can sit on to move faster.

It’s been a long time coming. It’s been more than six years since Shigeru Miyamoto said the new Pikmin was close to completion. Since then, silence. But we finally got to see the long-awaited Pikmin 4 live! And the release date has been revealed: 21 July.

As we first saw a few months ago, the trailer for the new Nintendo Switch-exclusive strategy title reveals that the camera perspective will change slightly and move closer to the ground floor. This will give us some eye-catching shots, as we’ll get a better look at the protagonist’s diminutive stature and the colourful pikmines accompanying him.

This trailer also reveals a few other new features, such as a puppy-like creature to ride alongside all the pikmin. Also returning are the boss fights and natural hazards that have been such a staple of the GameCube series over the years.

It’s not the only GameCube title returning. Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct saw the announcement of Metroid Prime Remastered, among many others. Not surprisingly, there are a lot of fans of these classic series. It’s good to know that Nintendo is counting on all of us.
