Sony has added an unexpected bonus game to titles available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium level members.
PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium level members have access to a bonus game this month, as Sony has added Anodyne to the catalog. PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers get new titles every month, and Premium users can enjoy some additional bonuses, such as playability of selected PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 games. Sony usually updates PS Plus Extra and Premium in the third week of the month, with some games leaving the service around the same time. The final list is usually announced a few days before, but it almost never happens that games are added to PS Plus without an official announcement. Anodyne seems to be a rare exception to this rule, as it appears to have been added as a surprise bonus game.
TrueTrophies reports that Sony added Anodyne to the catalog of games available to PS Plus Extra and Premium users on April 4. Anodyne wasn’t on the official list of March’s PS Plus Extra games, and April’s lineup hasn’t even been announced yet, so it looks like Sony slipped the game in without much fanfare. In any case, higher-level PlayStation Plus members can download and play Anodyne at no extra cost.
For those of you who don’t know, Anodyne is a top-down action-adventure game that incorporates some elements from The Legend of Zelda series. The game received relatively positive reviews upon release, with the PC version achieving a score of 75 on Metacritic. Sony added some notable games to PS Plus Extra in March, including Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Street Fighter 5 Championship Edition and Tchia as a daily issue. Additionally, Premium users also had access to Ridge Racer Type 4, Ape Academy 2, and Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, but it was strange to see Anodyne missing from this list. WWE 2K22 was similarly added to PS Plus Extra on January 3rd, but its inclusion was already announced in December. Maybe the deal to get Anodyne in was done much later and the developer didn’t want to wait for the April monthly update. In any case, PS Plus Extra and Premium users can now play Anodyne as part of their subscription, and it will be interesting to see if Sony decides to add more bonus games as surprises in the future.
