An Italian vacation beyond the heart of life

CINEMA NEWS – Mainly young people go to the cinema, it is repeated in Hollywood, that is why the majority of films are made for this age group.

Then come the surprises that go against the demographic rule. The two recent romantic comedies, The Lost City and Into Paradise, were not specifically aimed at teenagers, but they were a big hit. Even more decisively than them in 2018, Book Club, whose four heroines – Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen and Candice Bergen – she enjoys the joys of life as a grandmother. The film grossed more than 100 million dollars, which is a striking result for a production whose protagonists are older ladies, and not even a superhero appears in the neighborhood.

Since then there has been a pandemic, cinema-going habits have changed, it is even more difficult to attract not very young viewers to multiplexes, Book Club – The next chapter nevertheless undertakes to do so . The four heroines haven’t gotten much younger in six years, but their energy and joie de vivre are unrelenting. Now they are embarking on an adventure in Italy, which they had planned back in their university years, but until now life has dragged their calculations on the pretext of various marriages, divorces and heart attacks. There’s a long tradition of the “Americans tripping over Europe” type of comedy in Hollywood; what makes Book Club – The Next Chapter fresh and different are the four actresses who throw themselves into the pleasures with their rich life experience behind them. Of course, there is no lack of romance on the cruise from Rome to Venice to Tuscany, provided by Andy Garcia and Don Johnson, among others, and it is a pleasure to see the retired Italian heartthrob, Giancarlo Giannini in the role of the constantly appearing police chief.

The romantic sports comedy 80 for Brady, in which the 84-year-old In addition to Fonda, 82-year-old Lily Tomlin and 91-year-old Rita Moreno take the prize. The production was canceled before its presentation, saying that only gerontology students would be interested in it, in comparison it was a great success overseas.
