MOVIE NEWS – Former governor and legendary action star Arnold Schwarzenegger has spared no words of wisdom for his fellow action star’s retirement.
It’s good to see legends speaking out about legends. That’s what happened this time when Hollywood icon Arnold Schwarzenegger opened up about the retirement of his action movie megastar Bruce Willis. It goes without saying that fans will miss the veteran actor on the big screen. Willis’s departure from the silver screen, announced by the Die Hard actor’s family in 2022 following an aphasia diagnosis (now upgraded to frontotemporal dementia), has left fans and colleagues wondering about his impactful contribution to the art of film.
It was already wonderful that the former Mr Universe took the time to give Willis his time, but even better, he gave the best response.
The legendary action star, known for wowing audiences on the big screen for decades, is now making his debut on the small screen with his debut in the action-comedy series FUBAR. (Our review of the series can be found here. ) The actor sat down for an interview with CinemaBlend’s Sean O’Connell to talk about the series (which is available with a Netflix subscription). The conversation eventually turned to his colleague Bruce Willis. Schwarzenegger, who is known for his own illustrious career, shared his admiration for Willis along with a great statement about action stars, saying:
“I think that he’s fantastic. He was, always for years and years, is a huge, huge star. And I think that he will always be remembered as a great, great star. And a kind man. I understand that under his circumstances, health-wise, that he had to retire. But in general, you know, we never really retire. Action heroes, they reload.”
The Terminator star expressed deep respect and admiration for the lasting legacy his pal has created in the industry. With unforgettable performances in iconic films such as Die Hard and Pulp Fiction, Bruce Willis has left an indelible mark on the action genre. He has now retired from the spotlight. He is currently enjoying being a new grandfather. But his work and the anecdotes shared by his fellow actors, including Donnie Wahlberg, continue to resonate and inspire future generations.
And if you’re an action star – or just an actor in general – I don’t think you can ask for much more than that.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s response to Bruce Willis’ retirement is profound. It shows the special bond between these two action/adventure film legends and friends. Although the beloved Fifth Element star has retired from the limelight, it’s reassuring to know that we can still enjoy his work. And what’s even sweeter is that he’s gotten so much love during that time that I agree with the assessment that true action heroes never really fade away. They simply go on to new and exciting paths.
