Microsoft is not going down the same path as its rival because it is taking a more transparent approach…

In the case of Sony, we’ve already heard rumors that a PlayStation 5 Pro is in the pipeline and will be released towards the end of 2024 (by which time, we’re hoping that the PlayStation 5 Slim, another rumored Blu-ray driveless model, will be CHEAPER because we’ve never seen a console RAISE its price nearly two years after its release). However, we don’t hear anything similar around Microsoft regarding a third Xbox Series model… or maybe a fourth one? Let’s not forget that they are working on a stick for streaming (Xbox Cloud Gaming) and are still redesigning it.

Digital Foundry’s weekly podcast talked about the mid-gen update, and it’s not what we expected to hear! Microsoft is supposedly not working on such hardware because it’s already in the shops! The company considers the Xbox Series S to be the base console, and the half-generation update is none other than the Xbox Series X! It was just released earlier, so gamers could choose the console they thought was the current equivalent of the Xbox One X from the start of the generation.

It’s worth considering here that several developers have already criticized the Xbox Series S, and we’ve reported several such comments over the last year and a half. Technically, it is indeed the thought Microsoft is following because the Redmond-based company expects developers to run their games on Xbox Series S, not just Xbox Series X, so it could be called the ‘lowest common denominator,’ which could hold games back, as the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 is capable of much more than ‘the little brother.’

But if Sony does release the PlayStation 5 Pro, Microsoft will have to think about the situation because if the release of the PS5 Pro boosts PlayStation sales even more, they will be even further behind…
