In the spinoff of the franchise no longer called Yakuza, we also learned how Kiryu is working with Akamei.

New information from SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio sheds more light on the characters this time. Akame has her hands in everything in Sotenbori, Osaka, the entertainment capital of West Japan. During one of the Daidoji faction’s missions, Kiryu becomes involved in an incident where he meets Akame, a mysterious woman with deep knowledge of Sotenbori’s underworld. With the help of the Akame Network, an intelligence network of homeless people, Akame gathers information and, as an all-rounder, takes on risky assignments that others do not. Kiryu ends up working with Akame, and as they get to know each other while solving underworld problems such as the poverty business, the drama of their relationship unfolds.

Other than Kihei Hanawa, Kiryu’s handler as an agent for the Daidoji Faction, where he is known by the codename “Joryu,” Kiryu will also encounter other members of the Daidoji Faction. Yoshimura (portrayed by Mitsuaki Kanuka) is a cog in a cold-hearted and unfeeling organization—a manager in the Daidoji faction who specializes in violence. Yoshimura prioritizes the faction above all else, ruthlessly eliminating those who pose a threat. He openly expresses his contempt for Kiryu, who shows no allegiance. Boss (portrayed by Hiroshi Naka) is the general in the shadows. Besides the fact that he is a high-ranking officer in the Daidoji faction, little is known about this old man who uses a wheelchair. As someone who possesses significant power within the organization, he demands Kiryu to keep the pact he made with the Daidoji. Head Priest (portrayed by Ikkyu Juku) is a man who serves as the head priest of the Daidoji. Detached from his earthly desires, he enjoys playing Go.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will be released on November 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, guaranteed to have Denuvo), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s rare nowadays to see significant cross-gen games three years after the launch of a current-gen console, but the pandemic and the great success of PlayStation 4 play a role in it.
