The Merry Greeks Return to the Land of Their Ancestors in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3

MOVIE NEWS – My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 went down in film history as the most profitable romantic comedy of all time, because it brought in a total of almost 370 million dollars with a budget of five million dollars. The engine of the enterprise was Nia Vardalos, who wrote her own rich life experiences in the script of the film (she was nominated for an Oscar), and she also played the main role.

The center of the story is a large, noisy and very funny Greek family, who do not deny their roots in America either. Vardalos originally wrote the story as a one-person play, the performance was seen by Rita Wilson, also of Greek origin, who fell in love with it so much that she and her husband Tom Hanks decided to make a movie out of it. Hanks got a taste for producing then – in 2001 – and immediately saw the potential of Vardalos’ work.

The huge success surprised the actress at first, but then she easily deciphered the reason. “The audience marveled at these pushy Greeks, then exclaimed: Well, I have a family just like that! said Vardalos in an interview with Parade magazine. “It was clear that there would be a sequel, the only question was when.”

After the second part in 2016, the third part has now been completed, in which the ever-sizzling Portokalos family returns to the land of their ancestors, Greece, to take part in another great Greek lagzin. Now more than just the original couple, the now-married Toula and Ian (Vardalos and John Corbett) are romantic the focus is on his fall, but the audience can also ride the emotional roller coaster of the young representatives of the next generation (Elena Kampouris and Elias Kacavas).

Vardalos, however, does not blow the same note for the third time: his new film, which he also directs this time, also has a political message. “What I’m trying to say is that we are all immigrants in America, starting with the founding fathers. Only very, very few people can say that this land is completely theirs, because they have always lived here.”

Although Vardalos practically adapted his own life to film, including that, like Toula on screen, he did not -she chose a Greek husband in the person of the Puerto Rican-born actor Ian Gomez, who also appeared in the first two Bazi big Greek lagzi. They divorced after 23 years of marriage, but the actress does not bring this trend into her films. “It’s better to keep silent about this. It seems like I’ve been putting my whole life out in front of people, even though I’m a very reserved person. I don’t post about my personal life on Insta, and if I happen to be on vacation somewhere, I only post a picture of where I was after the fact. I don’t put my child out anywhere either. (His adopted daughter, Ilaria, is 18 years old – ed.) I make sure that I have control.”
