The Fans Acknowledged One of the Big Jokes in Five Five Nights at Freddy’s with a Huge Scream

MOVIE NEWS – Although it was thoroughly criticized by the critics, Five Nights at Freddy’s performed very well at the box office, and in less than two weeks, the total revenue is already well over 200 million dollars. The creators of the film based on the extremely popular worldwide video game (commonly used abbreviation: FNaF – from Five Nights at Freddy’s) promised that fans will be able to discover a lot of references to the game. This is true, but it turned out that not only FNaF is paid tribute to in the film, but genre references also occur.

One of the great moves of the creators of Five Nights at Freddy’s is that they managed to win Matthew Lillard, who became a cult figure in the horror genre, for the main role of the killer after he played one of the masked butchers who haunts him as Ghost Jaws in the original 1996 Scream. Now, the news quickly spread across the internet that Lillard‘s character as the main villain of Five Nights at Freddy’s Pizza repeats the gesture made by the horror he played in Scream: he runs his gloved finger lustfully along the edge of the cleaver knife. The fans cheer.

The director of Five Nights at Freddy’sa, Emma Tammi, previously revealed that many of the film’s jokes were not included in the script, but arose during the whirlwind of events, were recorded, and if it turned out to be good enough, remained in the finished movie version. It is clear that the knife scene was Lillard‘s idea, since he was included in the new film in the first place because he created something lasting in the old one.

Wes Craven’s 1996 Scream was, among other things, an ironic meta-revision of slasher horrors. The heroes teach the genre lesson in it: “Don’t drink, but do drugs, don’t have sex, and don’t go out to the dark garage, promising that I’ll be right back, otherwise that’s enough for you.” But the knowledge is in vain, the terrible twist comes in the person of the killers who flout the rules. Five Nights at Freddy’s can also allude to this with Lillard‘s sharp quote – but what can be gleaned from this is up to the aesthetes to decipher.
