Grand Theft Auto VI’s Hacker Has Been Forced To Receive Medical Treatment!

The Lapsus$ gang has hacked Nvidia, Samsung and Microsoft, and one of its main members has admitted that he wants to return to cybercrime as soon as possible…

We reported on the Grand Theft Auto VI leak last year, and it was perhaps the biggest case in the gaming industry (DOOM 3 and Half-Life 2 had a much bigger impact…), and now the BBC has reported that the 18-year-old hacker who was also found guilty of leaking the GTA VI footage will remain in hospital indefinitely. Aaron Kurtaj attacked tech companies as part of Lapsus$ last August. He was examined by a psychiatrist and the judge ruled that Kurtaj was not mentally fit to stand trial, so the jury only had to decide whether he actually committed the attacks, not whether there was intent to commit a crime.

Kurtaj was found to have “acute autism” based on a mental health evaluation. Let’s not forget that Kurtaj carried out the Rockstar hack while out on bail and in police custody in a Travelodge hotel for his previous hacking attacks. He was technologically limited, but still only needed an Amazon Fire Stick, the hotel TV, and a cell phone. According to the judge, Kurtaj’s skills and dedication to crime make him a huge danger to the public and he should remain in a secure hospital for the rest of his life unless doctors deem him no longer dangerous…

It seems like a bit of an exaggeration when it comes to leaking a video game, but in addition to the aforementioned tech companies, Lapsus$ also attacked a British telecom company BT&EE and stole millions of pounds of cryptocurrency from several individuals. He was also allegedly violent, with “dozens” of injuries and damages reported while in custody.

Another boy, a 17-year-old, was also found guilty during the trial. He had also worked with Kurtaj, but was also found guilty of harassing and stalking two young women and must spend 18 months in a Youth Rehabilitation Order. Seven teenagers from Lapsus$ were arrested in the UK during 2022, and according to the BBC, several more members have not been caught…
