The developers of Helldivers think it’s unfair to have a game with microtransactions if they don’t make much sense (or if the game itself isn’t that high quality).
The co-operative, third-person sci-fi game, released for PlayStation 5 and PC, already has over 155,000 concurrent users on Steam. What about sales? Johan Pilestedt, creative director of Helldivers 2 (and CEO of Arrowhead, the game’s development team), confirmed on Twitter that they’ve already sold over 1 million copies, with sales split roughly evenly between PlayStation 5 and PC.
Pilestedt was asked what he thought of Palworld’s success. He said that if they could only achieve half of that success, the team would be very happy, and wished PocketPair every success, as the Japanese team had made a fantastic game. Then there was the question of how Helldivers 2 has a non-violent monetization. To this he wrote: “You have to earn the right to monetize. I really believe that. If people want to support this title, they have that option, but we never force anyone to do that.
Well… We are around a million right now, but yes. The gap is still very large.

The helmets had different features, but they had to cut that out of Helldivers 2 during development. Each helmet had a different visual feature and also had unique abilities (headlamp, night vision, enemy stats, bullet trajectory estimation, that sort of thing). The larger “raids” are only present as an option, and the idea is in the wild, but difficult to implement category of future content ideas, due to assumptions about network traffic and game structure.

Pilestedt added that the content roadmap will be released once the matchmaking and connectivity bugs are ironed out: “Our services, as well as those of our partners, have a rate limiter that denies connections above a certain volume per minute to prevent the entire system from crashing. We were able to increase the rate limit from 10,000/min to 20,000/min and the total capacity of concurrent players was increased from 250,000 to 360,000. However, this was still not enough as the player count jumped to 360k after 5 minutes. So the login problem remains. As for the reward issue, the fix has been mitigated but not solved. And without additional server maintenance, this will still not work as intended. If you are experiencing this problem, you may want to try restarting the game to increase the chances of it resetting. This is due to high traffic on the Helldivers 2 servers causing rewards to not be tracked correctly.
