MOVIE NEWS – Poor Things set designer Zsuzsa Mihalek won the golden statuette at the 96th Academy Awards (Oscars) last night, shared with two of her colleagues.
Zsuzsa Mihalek, the set designer for Poor Things, won the Oscar for best production design along with Shona Heath and British scenic designer James Price at the Oscars last night.
The statue was taken over by his colleagues, Heath and Price. In their speech, they said they were sorry that their Hungarian colleague was not there. Mihalek also received the British BAFTA award in February, but he was unable to attend that ceremony either.
According to IMDb, Zsuzsa Mihalek started her career as a set designer in the 1980s. Mihalek previously worked on Dollybirds (Csinibaba), Werckmeister Harmonies, and Argo, but also in international productions shot in Hungary, such as Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy and Atomic Blonde.
The most recent Hungarian Oscar winner was also a set and production designer. Zsuzsanna Sipos won for her work in the film Dune, which she shared with set designer Patrice Vermette.
