Is Microsoft About To Announce A New Title In One Of Its Significant IPs?

The franchise has yet to appear on the current generation of consoles, so it makes sense that Microsoft would want to pull it out of the drawer, and there are already rumors from multiple directions that the Redmond company might announce it at the Xbox Showcase.

Gears 5 is coming to Xbox One and PC on September 10, 2019 (and will then be included in the Xbox Series launch titles), making it nearly five years since the latest installment of the IP formerly known as Gears of War was released. Because of this, there’s a good chance that Gears 6 is in development, with several people claiming that a game is in the works. On the Kinda Funny Xcast, Jeff Grubb said that something will happen with Gears 6 this summer, then Nate Najda (aka shinobi602) posted on the ResetEra forum after seeing images from Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II that we should wait for Gears 6 because people aren’t prepared for how beautiful it will be…

The Coalition, the company behind Gears, was the first AAA studio we heard of in 2021 to switch to Unreal Engine 5. A few months later, we saw a pretty nice UE5 demo from them, Alpha Point, and since it was running on the Xbox Series X, you could already see what one of Microsoft’s older studios could do with the latest technology. (Of course, this is being held back by the Xbox Series S, but that’s their problem…)

Then a third insider, The Verge editor Tom Warren, took to Twitter to talk about Gears 6. He said that it would be a big surprise if the Xbox Showcase, which will take place instead of E3, does NOT talk about the game. If history repeats itself, the latest episode of Gears of War will be able to show what the current generation of consoles is capable of. Back in the day, the first GoW showed what the Xbox 360 could do.

None of this is official yet.
