Splinter Cell Remake: Will Ubisoft Finally Show Its Gameplay?!

We’ve been waiting for Sam Fisher’s return for years (the Ghost Recon cameo doesn’t count), so maybe the French publisher is finally ready to show the game to the public, years after it was announced.

Splinter Cell Remake is being developed by Ubisoft Toronto. The studio’s Facebook page has been updated with a profile picture and a header image shared on Twitter @MauroNL. The greenish tint of the former might make you think of night vision goggles, a signature tool of Agent Sam Fisher, but the header says it all. Three green lights, and in exactly the same shape as Sam’s goggles more than two decades ago. So it’s a clear indication that the studio is preparing for some kind of reveal for Splinter Cell Remake.

It’s been over two years since Ubisoft announced Splinter Cell Remake, as we first officially heard about it in December 2021. The game will run on the Snowdrop Engine, and according to a 2022 job posting, the story has been rewritten and modernized for a modern audience. So the story has been tweaked by the French publisher, but the gameplay will be as linear as the original, so don’t expect an open-world title from Ubisoft (they’re doubling down on that…).

“Using the first Splinter Cell game as a foundation, we are rewriting and updating the story for a modern audience. We want to keep the spirit and themes of the original game while exploring our characters and world to make them more authentic and believable. As a Scriptwriter at Ubisoft Toronto, you will join the Narrative team and help create a cohesive and compelling narrative experience for a new audience of Splinter Cell fans,” read the job posting two years ago.

We might see Splinter Cell Remake in action at Ubisoft Forward. The French company has just confirmed that it will launch a Ubisoft Forward in Los Angeles on June 10 to coincide with E3, so even if E3 is canceled, the location and date will not change.
