Atari (which is far from what it was in the 70s!) is bringing back a name that hasn’t been used for decades, and the goal is to build a portfolio of acquisitions under the name Infogrames.

So Infogrames is back, a name that was last used in 2003, as in May of that year the company was renamed Atari Interactive by its owner, Atari SA, to roughly follow the organizational structure that THQ Nordic AB would later follow, as one of the subsidiaries under the former name of the Embracer Group (which is splitting into three as we speak) was THQ Nordic GmbH. 21 years later, Atari realized that it would be easier not to have everything under the Atari name, so they brought back the name Infogrames.

Infogrames will publish games that fall outside of Atari’s main IP portfolio. It wants to expand its digital and store distribution so that it can actively manage its game catalog, for which it will also develop new collections and sequels. A key part of its mission is also game preservation, which could be a model for many other publishers (such as Ubisoft for The Crew). Wade Rosen, CEO of Atari, said in a statement that “Infogrames has developed and published compelling and eclectic games for decades, and we are excited to bring the name back.

So Infogrames is looking to expand its portfolio through acquisitions, but it may also include games that were first published by Infogrames. (We’ll give them an idea: official support for the fan revival of Hogs of War, Hogs of War Lardcore, would be a good idea, since it was developed in-house by Infogrames…) The first game to be added to the portfolio is Reliable Delivery Service, previously published by tinyBuild for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), but the IP and the game are now owned by Infogrames.

Interesting times ahead if this name is successfully brought back. The Accolade name didn’t do much during the Bubsy games!
