There are also rumors about the release date of the next remake, so it’s clear that Capcom isn’t sitting idle.
Following the release of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, the survival-horror series entered a new golden age. This year, the series will culminate with the release of Resident Evil Requiem for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. A few months ago, Capcom confirmed that they are developing a story DLC that is reportedly just as extensive as the Separate Ways expansion for Resident Evil 4 Remake. This signals the start of the Japanese publisher’s new strategy.

Capcom is investing into doing more lengthy story DLC in the future of RE, of the length & ambition as Separate Ways/Shadow of Rose, for both Requiem & future RE titles. There’s a

“I want to share something I heard that I think is really interesting: Resident Evil-related news. Capcom is planning to create more substantial story DLC for future Resident Evil titles, similar in scope to Separate Ways and Shadow of Rose. There are a few reasons for this. I also keep hearing that the DLC for Resident Evil Requiem is going to be released after the Code Veronica remake. In recent years, Capcom has had issues with side games like Revelations, Chronicles, and Survivor in the RE Engine era. This is apparently a temporary solution that Capcom is employing: investing in longer story DLCs for their Resident Evil games that work as smaller, more experimental “side stories” for the franchise. This will also help fill the release schedule between the bigger RE games.
From what I’ve heard, they’ve decided to be ambitious with the DLC. Veronica is ‘all hands on deck’ to see if they can finish it in time for the first quarter of 2027. They’ll delay it to the second quarter if needed, but they want to see if they can reach that goal. They’re responding to a lot of feedback that came in after the release of Resident Evil Requiem, which has inspired them to be more ambitious with the DLC. Thus, it requires more work. This decision to continue bigger story DLCs for Resident Evil now and in the future was somewhat inspired by this,” Dusk Golem wrote.
Looking at the marketing cycles and release dates of previous entries in the series, such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Requiem, it appears that Resident Evil Veronica is on track for a late February or early March release. Fortunately, with Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show coming up in the next few weeks, we probably won’t have to wait long to find out when this major reimagining of Claire and Chris Redfield’s story—set on Rockford Island and at the Antarctic base—will return to our screens.
