Five years after the release of the fifth opus, Gears 6 is still eagerly awaited by fans of the Xbox-exclusive game. However, the long-awaited announcement may soon take place…
So far, only reports and rumours have circulated about the upcoming announcement of Gears 6. However, now, a person very close to the license has come forward to confirm this, answering a fan’s question about specific key points of the story unfolding in the sequel. As a result, some SPOILERS about the story of the previous episodes are likely to creep into this article. We were alerted and armed to face the hordes of Locust/Vermins, whichever we came across.
Gears 6 will soon return to the public consciousness
One of the most credible predictions regarding the upcoming announcement of Gears 6 comes from Jeff Grubb. In a recently published podcast, he indicated that it will take place at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, as part of the Summer Game Fest. This is a seemingly logical prediction coming from a generally well-informed personality. But that’s all. However, another particularly tangible piece of evidence has now come to light. This is about the upcoming announcement that fans have waited for so long. This time, it came from Liam McIntyre, the voice of JD Fenix (son of Marcus Fenix). The character served as the protagonist in the fourth opus and as a squadmate in the fifth.
There will probably be SPOILERS here. So, you might want to skip the next paragraph and the tweet at the end of the article if you want to avoid them.
A fan asked on X about the fate of JD Fenix in Gears 6. In the previous episode, as Kait Diaz, we must make a terrible decision. Towards the end of the game, we have to choose between saving Del and saving JD. Fatally, saving one seals the fate of the other. The fan then wondered which election the Coalition would consider canon in the sequel. To this, Liam McIntyre, the voice of JD Fenix, replied: “I have no idea. I think Gears of War will tell us all about it in June!” The upcoming announcement of the game leaves less and less room for doubt.
What can we expect from the sequel to the flagship Xbox-exclusive game?
What really upset fans about Gears 6 was The Coalition’s long radio silence on the subject. Aside from a bluff Unreal Engine 5 tech demo, we’ve heard next to nothing about the sequel for five years. From a technical standpoint, it looks like The Coalition’s next game is going to dazzle audiences for now.
However, the studio should not forget about fluidity, which is crucial in an action game of this calibre.
As for the gameplay itself, franchise fans can navigate familiar terrain. However, it seems that The Coalition intends to push the semi-open world zones introduced in the previous opus, at least in the campaign. The franchise, long known for its corridors, should, therefore, open up even more in Gears 6. If all is true, we will find out on June 9, unless the Locust/Vermins decide to wipe us out before then.
