It’s a situation Nintendo doesn’t want to find itself in, and the company’s CEO, Shuntaro Furukawa, spoke about it in a Q&A session with shareholders. The Japanese company’s management was asked what steps they were taking to prevent the new console from being resold, as Nintendo had already said at last year’s meeting that the company was preparing for this. Furukawa said that the goal is simply to make sure that retailers have enough stock so that scalpers don’t have a chance, because if there are enough consoles in the stores, that’s where everyone will buy the next-generation hardware.

They will also take into account the conditions in each region, and depending on that, Nintendo may take further steps. The company president also said that the chip shortage is no longer a problem: “Last year and the year before, we were unable to produce enough Nintendo Switch hardware due to a shortage of semiconductor components, but this situation has been resolved. At present, we do not believe that the component shortage will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model,” Furukawa said.

Nintendo has only officially said that the Switch’s successor will be revealed in the current fiscal year. So it will be unveiled in March 2025, but we think it will be released before then. After all, the Switch was released to the public in March 2017.
