11 Bit Studios (who also published Indika) have made a noble gesture to the Ohmatdy Children’s Hospital.

This was the hospital that the Russians bombed in Kiev this week. But 11 Bit Studios, a Polish company known for Frostpunk, Indika, The Alters and This War of Mine, did not take kindly to the Russian attack (it was inhumane to attack a children’s hospital…), and after 11 Bit Studios had previously announced that they would donate, it was time to do so.

“It pains us that the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues, and the recent abhorrent attack on the children’s hospital in Kyiv by Russian military forces has shook us to our core. However, mere words would be empty without meaningful action – having previously stated that a portion of 11 Bit Studios’ Indika revenues would be donated to help children affected by the war in Ukraine, we knew that the time to act was now. That is why we decided to donate $50000 to the Liberty Ukraine Foundation to support Ukrainian kids receiving treatment at the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv. War destroys everything in its path and is cruelest to the most innocent – children. Let this message resonate with all of us – players and developers together – and let’s do everything we can,” the publisher wrote.

Indika is a surreal third-person adventure game developed by Odd Meter. It’s a Russian studio that moved to Kazakhstan in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to studio founder Dmitry Svetlov, the attack on the hospital was “an insane crime committed to satisfy the ambitions of an old, feeble-minded dwarf”. Svetlov told PCGamer last year that the game (in which an Orthodox nun travels through an alternate history of Russia) was the studio’s attempt to show that there is no equivalence between people and authority.

The Russian government has denied the attack (they say it was a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile), but investigations suggest it was a Russian Kh-101 missile that hit the Ohmatdy…
