Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade – „Good Morning Arkhona!”

The fictional universe of Warhammer has reached a new episode. This time an unknown planet called Arkhona is being conquered by the Imperium of Man. Behaviour’s new game is set to provide the biggest battles, and the bloodiest. However this will only be released by the end of the year, and we will see how W40k will like this product.

Before we delve deeper, into the lore, let’s detail the gameplay a bit, as this doesn’t require too much extensive knowledge. There will be no singleplayer story, only online multiplayer. The matters are the usual, you join a faction, and try to conquer the entire planet. There is no order, or rules, just total annihilation. Players are 100% are independent and do not abide to anyone’s commands. That doesn’t mean that players can’t form raids, dominate the lands, and create different strategies.

 We are a lot!

Really a lot! Behaviour has asked the MuchDifferent’s Pikkoserver help for their game, it’s enough to know that there can be at least a thousand players in one map. Unbelievably huge number. There are of course not just lots of players, but playable factions, and their classes. Let’s start with the Space Marines, they represent the Elite of the Empire’s soldiers, who will act upon the will of the Emperor. There are four basic classes for this faction: Tactical, Devastator, Assault, and Medic. There will be also Elite, and hero classes, that can be divided into more subclasses. However there are no specific details.

The bad, the worse, the scum

From the perspective of a Space Marine, we will have to fear from a lot of enemies. What kills us the most? Well in my opinion the least worst is the Chaos Space Marines. They are the Marines that changed sides during the Horus Heresy that led to a war against the Emperor. Their classes are not too different from the human Space Marines. They still have the tactical, devastator classes, but there is a hunter, and mage. What is worse than the Chaos Marines?

Running into the Eldar, as Arkhona was once theirs, and in this war they wish to regain the old grounds. This race also has multiple classes such as: Avenger, Fire Dragon, Dark Reaper, Swooping Hawk, Howling Banshee, Striking Scorpion, and Warlock.
Finally we will be able to control the scum of the universe as in the Ork. They just go for the full slaughterhouse party, for their gods, Gork and Mork. Orks are the rednecks of space, primitive, don’t have fancy weapons, only pure aggression. The classes also reflect this primitiveness: Shoota, ‘ Eavy, Loota, Stormboy, Painboy. These are the basic classes, but of course there will be more heroic, elite classes in the full release

Oh help! Help!

Doesn’t matter which faction we side with, if you see a Tyranid enemy, run. They’re from another galaxy, and their reason for being on Arkhona is unknown. They do not use any kind of equipment, rather they evolve biologically to combat new foes, which means their mothership, and weapons are also biological. They are relentless killing machines.

To infinite and beyond

The next W40k looks promising and interesting. Although it is still in pre-alpha, on Youtube, the graphics and the entire concept is a bit foggy and dusty. Even though we write 40K in the future, besides the weapons not much is believable with regards to the environment. Rusty old walls, and boxes everywhere, as if Adams Family moved to another planet.

If we’re not in a building, well the scenery won’t make your jaw drop. The animation is great, since it’s done with motion capture, however the moveset is pretty boring, and after ten minutes it can become quite boring to see the same kill animation. There’s still time until the end of the year, let’s hope this game won’t let us down.

Looks good:

+ Fans will like it
+ Free reign to kill, and rule
+ Wish to influence Arkhona’s fate

Not sure about:

– Grey
– Clunky controls
