Magnificent Seven Trailer Has Denzel Washington & Chris Pratt in the Old West [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Director Antoine Fuqua directs an all-star cast in the first trailer for the Wild West remake The Magnificent Seven.

The Seven ride again! After a successful debut at last week’s CinemaCon, the very first trailer has finally arrived for the upcoming remake of the 1960 classic Western: The Magnificent Seven, which was itself a remake of The Seven Samurai from Akira Kurosawa. This trailer at the September Western has everything you could hope for. Action, humor and a lot of gun fights.

Director Antoine Fuqua gives us his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. According to the story, the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), and the anxious townspeople asks the help of seven outlaws, who are all bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns. The Magnificent Seven are Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier).

While they prepare the whole town for the ferocious showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money. The screenplay is from Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk. The producers are Roger Birnbaum and Todd Black. The movie unites once again the director Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington for a third time after the critically-acclaimed Training Day and The Equalizer.

The director revealed that he chose Denzel for this project by revealing him to envision an image of the actor riding over the hill on a black horse. And there’s a hip-hop version of Ennio Morricone’s iconic theme song playing in the background. Here’s what the director had to say about how Denzel responded to this pitch.

“Denzel just smiled and said, ‘All right, let’s do it.’ I walked out of the restaurant and said to myself, ‘Denzel Washington is getting on a horse for The Magnificent Seven.'”

The actor also practiced for the role by taking horseback lessons, and also formed a “bond,” so to speak, with his character’s signature weapon, a Colt .45 Peacemaker. According to the director, Denzel took this gun with him everywhere to get in line with his character. Here’s what the filmmaker had to say.

“He had it with him all the time, even when he wasn’t on the set. We’d have meetings, and he’d be spinning and twirling his gun while we were talking. He used to walk around his house spinning guns, go to restaurants. Obviously, people knew it was for his character.”

Production took place in New Orleans last year, and the director revealed that the sweltering heat provided some challenges for the cast, and even the horses. You can see come of that passion on display in this two-minute preview. The Magnificent Seven is set for release on September 23, going up against Warner Bros.’ Storks and an untitled project from Sony Pictures Animation. Hope on and ride into town with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in the first trailer for The Magnificient Seven.
